Preparations for ‘Trip-nós’ @ Electric Picnic 2015 are coming along nicely. If you’re going to be at this year’s Picnic, make sure to pop over to the Mindfield area where An Puball Gaeilge is situated. We’ll be performing at 1pm on Sunday.

Have a listen to the very talented Ruth McKiernan practicing the final number!

A short interview with Nicky Byrne about my new show ‘Trip-Nós’ as part of the St. Patrick’s Festival Highlights – check it out around 21.17!

We were absolutely thrilled with the performance on the night. Have a look at some of the photos:

Attention Dublin-based dancers and movers: Where will you be next Thursday, 14 March at around 6.30pm? Oh yes, at the Culture Box in Temple Bar for a deadly disco session with a twist as part of the St. Patrick’s Day Festival!

Trip-nós – it’s disco but not as you know it. Experience a completely unique dance experiment mixing Ireland’s indigenous ‘sean-nós’ dance with contemporary disco-inspired moves. Trip-nós is a live performance / workshop mixing sean-nós and contemporary dance with electronic music.

Trip-nós invites you to kick loose and perform using a fusion of tradition and electronic art forms. 3 dancers bring you on a journey where two styles collide resulting in an outrageous 80’s themed dance-off! Dress to impress.

How does it work? It’s simple. First the Trip-Nós gang do their thaaang and then participants must choose which style of dance they would like to ‘represent’. They will then learn four steps or more in their preferred style which will be catagorised in numbers 1-4. Finally the two groups must battle it out in an 80’s themed dance-off and…hey presto…Trip-Nós is born! Expect some belters including the epic ‘Inspector Norse’..yeah, you know what I’m talkin bout!

There’s only room for 30 people so register here. See YOU there!

Oh and it’s free!

Trip-nós (where two sessions collide) is a minute long dance film mixing sean-nós and contemporary dance with electronic and traditional Irish music.

The idea originated at Electric Picnic last year as a live show mixing sean-nós dance and trad music with a track entitled Inspector Norse by the acclaimed Norwegian DJ Todd Terje and was subsequently commissioned as part of Dance Ireland’s MINUTES IN MOTION series.

Directed by Patrick Timmons Ward and shot by Gavin FitzGerald, the film presents a cast of talented dancers and musicians based in Dublin and centers around an electronic track, composed by Galway-based DJ Dáithí ó Drónaí.

Trip-nós is all about letting go of inhibitions, enjoying dance, and merging styles you would never have imagined going together! The film has an 80’s feel and definitely needs to be taken with a pinch of salt! Enjoy!
