I spent the month of August in Limerick working with UK choreographer, Lea Anderson, on a new piece entitled ‘Snapshot’. We performed in Dance Limerick; The Cube in NUIG Galway; Firkin Crane, Cork and Dance House Dublin.

The work was devised in Dance Limerick as part of Step Up: Dance Project 2016.

I’m currently dancing in Kristyn Fontanella‘s new work entitled IN LiMBO. This new piece explores traditional Irish dance in a contemporary context and asks “What is Irish dance… and the space between?”.

Come see us in Dance Limerick on Thursday 15 Sept 2016 at 8pm: http://www.dancelimerick.ie/event/limbo-kristyn-fontanella.

Last night we showed 3 previews of Embodied at the GPO. All performance starting today are SOLD OUT! Crazy! Thanks to everyone for the support. Here I am having a little rave to myself in Fógraím / I Proclaim.

Fógraím Preview

I had the pleasure of performing as part of Centenary on RTÉ on Easter Monday. The show was beautifully choreographed by David Bolger, directed by John Comiskey and starring many talented singers, dancers and actors.

I danced some sean-nós steps with friends Emma O’Sullivan, Samantha Harvey and Eamonn Moloney with music by the fabulous Sharon Shannon, Dónal Lunny, Michael McGoldrick and John Sheahan. Well worth the watch.. hard to hold back  the tears at times. Watch Centenary here: http://www.rte.ie/player/ie/show/centenary-30003958/10552342/.

Oireachtas 2008

[Leagan Gaeilge thíos]

Due to the amazing turnout I had for both sean-nós dance workshops last week at Club Chonradh na Gaeilge, 6 Harcourt Street, Dublin 2, I’ve decided to run another night this Friday, 23 August 2013, at the same time and venue.

I noticed some serious talent in both classes and would like to explore the steps in greater detail. If you feel you’d like to take a step up from the beginner’s class, I would suggest you give the improvers class a try, even if last week was your first lesson. If you feel you would benefit from a recap of the basic steps, I’d stick to the beginner’s class.

Here are the details:

The evening will kick off at 6pm with an hour-long intensive workshop for improvers. Participants must have prior experience and should be willing to dance solo. This workshop will cover more advanced reel steps as well as more complex rhythmic ornamentation. €10 admission.

From 7.15pm – 8.45pm I’ll be going back to basics for a beginner’s workshop. Starting with a short warm up to get the heart rate up, this workshop will a provide a basic lesson in traditional rhythm as well as a good physical workout – no prior experience necessary. €12 admission.

Although both workshops will be taught bilingually, participants are not required to speak Irish. Spaces are very limited so please make sure to reserve a place by e-mailing sibeal.davitt@gmail.com. Please arrive 15 mins early to prepare for the class.

De bharr éilimh mhóir, tá an cinneadh glactha agam tuilleadh ceardlanna damhsa ar an sean-nós a reáchtáil Dé hAoine beag seo, 23 Lúnasa 2013, ag Club Chonradh na Gaeilge, 6 Sráid Fhearchair, Baile Átha Cliath 2.

Bhí mé an-tógtha le caighdeán ard na ndamhsóirí a bhí i láthair an tseachtain seo caite agus is mian liom na scileanna sin a fhorbairt níos mó.

Seo iad na sonraí:

Cuirfear tús leis an oíche le ceardlann d’fheabhóirí ag 6 – 7i.n. Ardrang aclaíochta a bheidh i gceist leis seo ina ndíreofar ar chéimeanna níos casta agus ar ornáidíocht rithime. Beifear ag súil go mbeadh na bunchéimeanna ar eolas ag na rannpháirtithe agus go mbeadh muinín acu iontu. Gearrfar €10 an duine don uair an chloig.

Ag 7.15 – 8.45 beidh fáilte roimh ghlanthosaitheoirí teacht agus bunchéimeanna an tsean-nóis a fhoghlaim. Ní gá go mbeadh cur amach ag rannpháirtithe ar an sean-nós roimhe seo ach ba chóir go mbeadh siad toilteanach allas a chur! €12 an praghas a bheidh ar uair go leith.

Ceardlanna dátheangacha a bheidh i gceist agus ní bheifear ag súil le cumas ard Gaeilge. Beidh teorainn le líon na spásanna sna ceardlanna mar sin ní mór r-phost a chur chuig sibeal.davitt@gmail.com le spás a chur in áirithe.

I’ve just returned from a wonderful trip to Japan as part of a dance tour called ‘Women of Ireland’. I was delighted to be asked to represent Ireland abroad as a modern and sean-nós dancer and also to visit one of the countries I’m most interested in.

Over the course of the tour, which stretched from Fukuoka to Sapporo, I tasted some pretty amazing food, met the loveliest of people and saw some unforgettable towns and cities.

I find there’s no better way of describing a trip than through images so hopefully my Instagram diary will express my love for the country better than words. Arigatou gozaimasu!
