Today, Paul Johnson, Dance Ireland CEO, announced Sibéal Davitt as Dance Ireland’s 2020 Associate Artist.
Now in it’s eighth year, the Associate Artist programme is a significant means for Dance Ireland to support the development of dance artists and choreography in Ireland.
Tá áthas an domhain orm an gradam seo a bhaint amach. It’s a huge honour to be named as Dance Ireland’s Associate Artist. 2020 will be a very busy and exciting year for me as I delve into research and development for two new works. Dance Ireland will be an invaluable partner on this journey of exploration and expansion and I undoubtedly look forward to seeing what unfolds.
During the first half of 2020, Sibéal will begin development on her new work ‘Minseach’, a new full length dance work about the learning and teaching of the Irish language in modern day Ireland. She will work in collaboration with acclaimed writer and actor Caitríona Ní Mhurchú with additional collaboration with sound designer Sinéad Diskin.
Later in the year Sibéal will continue her exploration in the studio with dancers Emily Kilkenny Roddy, Jade O’Connor, Olwyn Lyons and Millie Daniel Dempsey developing a new short work entitled ‘Leanaimis’.
She will be sharing works in progress at the end of both residencies.
