I’m just home from Seville, Spain where I had the wonderful opportunity of performing sean-nós in the stunning open air venue, CICUS Arts Center, for two nights.

On the first night I performed with ‘Stolen Notes’ a local Irish traditional music group, who I was amazed to hear had reached a level of virtuosity by learning tunes on the internet and at local sessions.

On the second night I performed with the extremely talented sean-nós singer, Lillis O Laoire, and musicians Fiachna O Mongáin from Co. Mayo and Tara Ní Chonacháin from Co. Donegal. Having never performed with these artists, I was surprised at how quickly we made a musical connection and how well everybody seemed to gel. There was certainly some sort of magic in the air that night and it’ll be a very difficult gig to top!

The people of Seville are so welcoming and friendly and we were very well looked after during our stay. I was captivated by the all the music in the streets and at the flamingo bars and I hope to make another trip soon.

Thanks to Antonio Rivero Taravillo for being a great host!
